Kim Reed has been singing since she was born. At age 5 she started singing with the children's group “Showbiz Kids” and performed for large groups around southern California. By age 11 she knew she wanted to take music more seriously and began studying classical music, art songs and opera. It was at that time her love of music and singing truly bloomed.
She began singing in a variety of choruses and productions including The Music Man, Anything Goes and Naughty Marietta. In college she began studying acting and theatre as well as music and grew her passion for theatre, particularly absurdism, with shows like Marat/Sade, Fourteen, and works by Ionesco, Beckett and the like. Since then she has performed and sung in a number of styles including jazz, classical, funk, pop, musical theatre, contemporary and more.
She has sung with the a cappella group, SoundStage, which incorporates all these styles of music, creating complex, tight harmonies. They perform all around the Southern California area and have won the Harmony Sweepstakes regional championships and also hosted the competition twice. They have performed internationally and were invited to a two week tour in Taiwan for the 10th anniversary Banciao Music Festival, where they also placed 2nd among international competitors.
She has also stayed true to her love of theatre by co-founding Umbrella Machine Theatre in 2006 and its current incarnation, Loose Belt Theatre, which stage original and established plays and musicals. She also founded and operates Lunch Box Production Company, incorporating music, theatre, film and web content.
